Evaluation 3 : Live Drawing

For this task of live drawing I focused heavily on getting a sense of motion and pose from my drawings as I aim to follow a path into animation these felt most fitting. As I began to warm up to drawing in public, something I haven't always been comfortable doing, I did see an improvement in my capturing dynamic poses that convey movement of the people on the streets. I did find difficulty drawing moving characters to a degree as I didn't draw quite quickly enough before they were out of site so I should work on my ability to work quickly. I also had trouble drawing people who had a line of site at me as I wasn't quite confident enough and as a result most of my subjects were either facing away from me or quite far away, this limited my ability draw details of clothes and faces. I feel for a task like this if I wish to improve I will have to get out there more and just practice till I'm more comfortable drawing strangers in public I found this exercise did help with the way I think about posing characters in animation and the wide variety of ways people pose themselves carrying out day to day activities. My big things to work on will be capturing little details, working quickly and being more confident working in public.

Evaluation 2 Task:Tone and Shade

Out of two tonal studies done in class this was the one I found most successful. I find this shape provided me with a wide range of different tones allowing me to use a large spectrum of light an dark. My Image is representational of the paper structure and has managed to give a feel of a three dimensional object which is one of the drawings strongest qualities, however the line of the tables on the left side could be straighter and currently gives a curved look. Its quite easy to see where the light is coming form in the image which I have enhanced in photoshop to add to the effect. I find the largest challenge I was faced with was keeping the surface of the object looking smooth with it gradually going from dark to light although despite the challenge the end result looks quite good. I believe if I was using smoother, better quality paper It would not have been as difficult a thing to do. One thing I shall note for my next piece of tonal work is to have more confidence with extreme darks and lights as I feel I was too cautious when adding shade to the image.

First Evaluation Task:Perspective

Positive aspects from my attempt at this exercise where that I captured the sense of depth and vanishing point rather well and I managed to hold together the scale of things in the scene fairly well. The biggest difficulties I faced with this drawing was definitely holding together the various angles that the scaffolding jutted out at, along with making sure each layer of scaffolding was scaled against the building correctly. I have found my technical drawing with buildings is definitely not as strong as more natural objects as it leaves little room for error, I will try to practice with drawing building to strengthen my abilities in this area. If I were to redo this task I would start with a larger canvas to draw on as I was limited by the size of my A4 sketchbook and struggled to pick out small details like the scaffolding. Also I would quite like to take this further and enhance the image with digital software to pick out the important details and lines.
